Hive is a data warehouse infrastructure used to process the structured data in Hadoop. It is an open-sourse software project that is built on top of Apache Hadoop to provide data queries and analysis. It provides an SQL-like interface to query data stored in different databases and files systems integrated with Hadoop. Apache Hive runs SQL-like queries called HQL (Hive Query Language), which gets internally converted to map-reduce jobs and also provides SQL abstraction to integrate SQL-like queries (HiveQL) to Java without the necessity to implement queries in low-level Java API. Hive provides support for Data Definition Language, Data Manipulation Language, and User-Defined Functions.
